Rose Tea & Toast
There was once a young girl who dreamed of creating a space for people like her—those who felt deeply, lived imaginatively, and saw beauty in the mundane.
She started by planning and sketching ideas to turn her dream into reality.
Building something worthy would take time, but she was ready for the challenge.
However, once construction began, she encountered more obstacles than she expected.
Each delay stretched the journey further than she had hoped. But with every setback, she adjusted her approach.
At one point, she began talking to every material and singing through each step to bless every part of the space.
This ritual helped steady the process.
In the first year, she cleared an area to build a solid foundation and set up her garden.
In the second year, she framed the house.
In the 7 years after, she added walls, doors, windows, lighting, and furniture.
It took ten years from plan to completion.
The place was just as she envisioned. Beautiful beyond words.
But still no one came.
She reached out far and wide to tell people about the house she built for all to enjoy, but there was silence.
She was not deterred, for the process of building the home instilled in her patience and optimism.
So she thought she must first love this place and fill each room with laughter and joy. This way, people will recognize its echo.
So she did.
She kept the same schedule every day.
She would wake up and sing to bless the house as she cleaned. She would sing to her garden while picking the plants to dry for her tea. She would sing to the trees on her land, her animals, paints, brushes, and canvas.
Every day at 5 pm, she would enjoy a slice of freshly baked bread with a cup of delicate rose tea and honey.
Every full moon, she would take her paintings outside and dance with them.
Two years passed, and nothing changed.
She had built the perfect house, followed the perfect plan, and kept to the perfect schedule, and still nothing.
Frustrated, she began to feel sorry for herself.
Distracted by her pity, she knocked over a large can of paint, then slipped and fell with such a bang that her animals were startled.
As the animals ran through the house, they left footprints of paint everywhere.
She looked around at the spilled paint, at the animals running amok, and at the table meant for friends, which stood empty.
As she was at her lowest, from deep within her came the loudest laugh.
She could not stop laughing, and she rolled on the floor holding her stomach as she laughed and laughed. Tears rolled down her cheeks.
Travelers nearby heard the laugh and came inside to see what was going on. They saw spilled paint, animals running around, and a girl on the floor laughing loudly.
It was such a scene that the travelers too began to laugh.
Once everyone settled, the travelers helped the girl clean her place, catch her animals, and share some toast and rose tea.
Nourished by her food, good laughter, and the girl's company, the travelers went on their way. They told the girl they would tell their friends of her special place.
True to their word, new people began to show up.
The new people would bring their friends, and soon there were large gatherings filled with laughter, play, and the smell of toast and tea.
Some of the newcomers came with burdens and grief.
The girl did not mind that their tears did not come from laughter.
They would still sit together, share stories, and eat the warm bread and delicate tea.
After 15 years, the community the girl dreamed of was finally emerging.
The place she built, echoing with her songs and blessings, became a haven for all who sought its comfort.
And the most beautiful house ever built flourished with laughter, tears, stories, and the scent of warm bread and delicate rose tea.
